Getting my first tattoo

First tattoo experience | www.hannahemilylane.com
Last week I got my first tattoo. It’s something I’ve been working the courage up to do for years. I’ve always admired them and think they can be incredibly beautiful, and I’m so proud of myself for finally taking the plunge and get one done.

I found my artist on Instagram, she was based in Coventry and I loved all her work. Then I noticed one of my friend’s tattoos on her feed so I dropped her a message and he couldn’t recommend her enough. Decision made.

I love botanical tattoos and I had an idea in mind of a little bouquet of flowers, black and grey and dotwork shading. My journal is filled with drawings like this and it just felt very ‘me’. Before you wonder, there’s no real meaning behind it. I just love the design. I was quite adamant I didn’t want my first tattoo to be one with a deep meaning, and I think I made the right decision as I’ll touch on later.

University Bucket List

University Bucket List - www.hannahemilylane.com
I can’t quite believe how quickly time has gone. It barely seems like a year ago I was excited about going to uni, and now in less than 2 months, I will have walked out of my last exam and my education will be over. My degree, that I’ve put so much energy and time into for the last 4 years, will be finished.

I’m busy writing my final essay and revising for my exams, but I thought I’d put together a little bucket list of all the things that I’ve done at uni and still want to do, partly for me, partly for you guys. Whether you’ve been to university and you want to see how much you’ve ticked off, or you’re heading to university this year, I thought this might be fun to share.

A London Photo Diary

London | www.hannahemilylane.com

Back at the beginning of February, Luke and I headed down to London for a little weekend away on our weekend off to spend some time together. Between work, uni and other stuff going on, we don't actually get to spend that much alone time together so it was really nice to just enjoy each other's company while exploring London and visiting some favourite places there.

5 Things I'm Loving Right Now

Shelfie | www.hannahemilylane.com
I haven't yet done one of these posts this year, and I love writing them, so I thought I’d fill you in on some of the things I’m currently obsessing over.

My life got a bit crazy recently when I had 3 deadlines all within a couple of weeks of each other, and stress hit me hard. I’ve also been pretty ill since the start of term with a horrible cold that I've only just managed to get over, so January wasn’t the best of months, but I still managed to find things that boosted my mood.

The easy way to draw mandalas

The easy way to draw a mandala | www.hannahemilylane.com
It always upsets me a little when people apologise for not posting on their blog because they've had a lot going on: you shouldn't need to say sorry really, but I'm going to say it anyway. I'm in my final year of university and I've had a lot of deadlines recently, so I had to take a step back from blogging to focus on my degree. I just had a bit too much on my plate and unfortunately blogging was the thing I had to sacrifice, but I'm not ready to give up my little corner of the internet just yet, so thanks for sticking around!

I've been doing a lot of art lately to keep me sane and help relax as stress really affects me. One of my favourite things to do is draw mandalas and I've tried numerous ways, watched a few tutorials and experimented a lot. I've finally found a way to draw a perfectly neat and beautiful mandala which is so simple I thought I would share on my blog. If you try this method out, please let me know as I'd love to see how you get on with it!

Happy 2017...

I hope you've all had a good start to the new year.

I'm definitely feeling those January blues - the cold weather, looming essay deadlines and the upcoming term has got me feeling a bit meh. But I'm focusing on those positives.

In the last few months, I feel like I've really learnt a lot about myself and have started to 'find' myself (I hate how cliche that sounds...) I may do a whole blog post on this, but I've really started to find my personal style rather than trying to follow all of the trends we see all over blogs, Pinterest, Instagram etc. Most of them don't suit me anyway. This has really helped me to feel a whole lot more comfortable in myself and confident with my outfits.

Reflecting on 2016 and 2017 Goals

Reflecting on 2016 and 2017 Goals | www.hannahemilylane.com

I was scrolling my Bloglovin' feed earlier and it made me notably happy to see all the upbeat, optimistic and uplifting posts. New Years are clearly as inspirational and motivational to a lot of other people as they are to me.

For years, I've wrote New Years resolutions, some years they're more specific than others but I love having goals to look forward to and this year is certainly no different.

2016 has been an odd one. A lot of awful things have happened in the world this year that have certainly tested my faith in humanity. There has been too many undeserved and untimely deaths of talented people, and there has been too many questionable political happenings, but I won't go into that here. (If you want to see my thoughts on Brexit, you can read those here). But many remarkable things have happened too, such as the eradication of ebola and other major health breakthroughs, Leonardo DiCaprio finally got that Oscar, world hunger is at its lowest point in 25 years, Norway committed to zero deforestation, wild wolves have started coming back to Europe and giant pandas are no longer endangered.

For me personally, I'm not actually sure how to look back on 2016. It's been testing for me.
