How to get a job in retail

If you read my last post then you will know I recently got a new job. I know how hard it can be to get a job at the minute, particularly in retail where there can be close to 200 applications for every job opening, but I've picked up a few tips that may help you out.

Student Sundays - Some things to expect at uni

Wow what a crazy week. I've only been at home for about 24 hours this week so I had no time to prepare the post I was planning for this week, but don't worry it will come next week! Last week I had some interviews for part time jobs in Leamington and got offered a job at M&S that same day, so on Sunday I was driving back up to Leamington to stay at a friend's so I could attend the induction Monday and Tuesday. Then home, then to the boyfriend's for his birthday, then back to Leamington this weekend to work. Crazy.

Anyway, on to this post. This isn't really a guide as such, more of a few things that I discovered when going to uni that no-one really spoke about beforehand.

Student Sundays - Packing

Hannah Lane

Hey guys! So I'm starting a thing. Every Sunday for the next few weeks there's going to be a post with tips on how to prepare for University in September/October. This will mainly be aimed at new students, but current uni students may be able to pick up a tip or two! I had a brilliant first year at uni and I learnt so much! I am now by no means an expert but hopefully you guys might find some use out of these posts.

My first post is going to be a packing list. This time last year I would have been searching pinterest and the internet to find a definitive packing list, and in the end I combined quite a few to make my own. The first thing to do when you're deciding what you need to buy is look at your accommodation. I was in halls but self catered. Some people will be catered, some people will be unfurnished flats. Find out where you'll be living, and try to find out what's already provided. The vast majority of halls will have furnished bedrooms and kitchens will have a toaster/microwave/kettle but you'll need to bring your own utensils etc, but some may even provide this!

Review - Schwarzkopf LIVE Color XXL HD Mystic Violet

Last week I dyed my hair with Schwarzkopf Live Color XXL HD Mystic Violet (87). I've been holding off for a little while to write this review as I wanted to see how the colour held after a few washes. I think it would be fair to say this is an interesting hair colour!

First of all, the colour is definitely not the colour on the box, and I've read this in a few reviews. I wasn't expecting it to be identical because it never will be, but I was expecting purple!

The above pictures are my previous hair colour, which I would say is as close to natural as it's been in years and a strand test. I really liked the colour of the strand test (very purple!) but it was quite a bit darker than I've been in a while (I think maybe a hair history post is needed for reference here) so I was a bit cautious. But I did it anyway...

This picture was taken the morning after. It was really hard to get a picture that actually showed the colour correctly, and also it looks a completely different colour in all lights! When the sun is on it its very red, and in darker lights its almost black. Whichever light its in though, its never the colour on the box. There is a lot more red in the colour and is more of a 'plum' than a violet colour.

The above pics are after 2 or 3 washes. The colour's gone a bit more reddish, and though it isn't the colour on the box, I'm still pleased with it! At first I wasn't sure, it is quite a few shades darker than what I'm used to, but now I'm happy with it, and I think dark hair suits me more anyway! There are a lot of nice tones in it and it's something a bit different. The only thing wrong with it and this is my fault really, is its a bit uneven. I ran out of hair dye so had to do my best with what I had and inevitably missed some hair, so there are a few bits of ginger here and there (oops hehe). The box does say to use 2 boxes if your hair is longer than shoulder length but normally I can dye my hair and extensions with just one box as my hair is so fine. So if your hair is longer than shoulder length, use 2 boxes!
Overall, I would recommend this hair dye but not if you want the colour on the box - it's still a nice colour and it didn't kill my hair (always a plus). I think Schwarzkopf need to change the picture on the front of the box but I would use this hair dye again. The colour will obviously develop differently for everyone, and because my hair was previously gingery anyway I'm not too surprised with the amount of red tones. If anyone has used some purple hair dye that actually comes out like the colour this one should have, I'd be grateful if you could leave a comment:)!

Have you used this colour hair dye and what did you think? Let me know!
