I love writing in calligraphy. I mean, just have a look at my bullet journal haha. My uncle bought me a calligraphy set for Christmas, and I've been practising but I'm really not very good at it. I still use and prefer this calligraphy hack as it is SO much easier!!
You don't need any fancy nibs or ink for this trick. Just a black ink pen.
Write something in a cursive script. I usually write each letter separately and then join them up, as it's easier and I think it looks better. Then I'll add some swirls to fancy things up. Sometimes I write in pencil first and then go over in pen to make sure I'm happy with it! If you need some inspiration or something to use as a point of reference, use dafont.com or another font website, or my fav, Pinterest.
The next step is to make it more like calligraphy. To do this, you need to add weight to the downstrokes. On every stroke you made with the letters that went from top to bottom, thicken it up. And you're done! It's really that easy.
I'd love to hear how you get on if you give it a go!
