DIY: How To Make Polaroids

DIY: How To Make Polaroids |
It seems as though every blogger and their pooch has a polaroid camera by now, but despite my love for photography or perhaps because of *shrugs*, I still don't. Actually, I kind of just think they're super expensive and a bit of a novelty. The cameras are affordable, but the film is crazy. However I do love the look of vintage polaroids.

So I ended up creating some mock polaroids for the string and pegs that went up in my bedroom and hung empty for a couple of weeks. I made 10 polaroids with pennies worth of white card (2 A3 sheets), and a couple of sheets of photo paper that I already had. A helluva lot cheaper than buying a polaroid camera for sure! Plus I got to pick out some of my best memories.

Here's how to make easy DIY polaroids:

#OOTD & Life Update

Urban Outfitters Teddy Coat | hannahemilylane

Happy Wednesday guys!

If I were you, I’d grab a cuppa and settle down. This is a long ‘un. 1000 words in fact before I even wrote this intro.

Today I thought we could have a catch up – it’s been a while hasn’t it? So this is a bit of a life update post, on how I’m feeling with different things since I graduated in the summer.

The photos on this post are from a little outfit shoot me and the boyfriend did last Saturday afternoon, which was fun. We took his dog out for a walk, got caught in the rain, then warmed up with hot chocolate afterwards. This coat is my absolute fave thing I’ve purchased in a while – the teddy coat. It’s the snuggliest, warmest jacket and it goes with so many outfits. It’s from Urban Outfitters, and funny story, I ended up driving to Leicester to go get it. So worth it though.

So here’s an OOTD with a catch up on my life.

Which Notebook Is The Best For Bullet Journalling?

Which Notebook Is The Best For Bullet Journalling? |
This is often a pretty debated topic in the Bujo community, and until now, one I’ve never really got involved in. Partly because I’m actually not much of a fan of the most popular notebooks! But also because I disagree that there is one-size-fits-all notebook. There are so many other great (and cheaper) notebooks out there that I really didn’t want to try a Leuchtturm, so I ended up buying a Paperchase one and have since moved on to a Muji one.

While I was writing this post, I thought it’d be really beneficial to get as many opinions as possible to create a fair, unbiased post. So I asked for some help over on Twitter as well as in my bloggers Whatsapp chat and got some great responses!

So here’s the definitive* guide to the ultimate notebook for bullet journalling.

(*disclaimer: not actually definitive)

My Absolute Fave Cruelty-Free Beauty Products

My Absolute Fave Cruelty-Free Beauty Products |
‘What is this?’ I hear you ask. A beauty post. On my blog. I know, what’s going on?

But here’s a beauty post, from someone who is very much not a beauty blogger.

But I know there must be girls out there like me, who have an interest in beauty and who want to look nice, but can’t be dealing with the faff or expense, or actually bothering to learn how to apply eyeshadow correctly. Spoiler: I still haven't learned.

So this is a list of my favourite beauty products, some of which I use daily, some I can’t live without, some slightly more luxurious. They won’t break the bank though, they’re all cruelty-free, they suit my sensitive skin and I can honestly recommend all of them.

Why I switched from iPhotos/Photos to Lightroom

Why I switched from iPhotos/Photos to Lightroom |
I bought a new Macbook around 2 years ago. My old one was great - I still use it because it’s still (mostly) going strong - but I needed something just a little bit lighter and a little bit faster, and my new Macbook is exactly that.

It’s always exciting getting a new laptop, or any new bit of tech really. But that excitement rapidly faded when I realised how bloody difficult it was going to be to move my photos over.

iPhoto - or Photos as it’s now called - is decent. It synced all my photos from my iPhone, it works great with other apps on Macs, it’s editing options are pretty neat for basic edits and it’s an easy way to view and organise photos.

Until you realise they’re not actually organised.

You try to find the original photo file in Finder, I dare you.

Homeware Wishlist

Homeware Wishlist |

Every time I move house, and that has been a lot in the last few years thanks to uni, my love for interiors and homeware is reignited. This time is absolutely no exception.

I love shopping for interior bits and bobs. Although you'd probably think I wouldn't because of the fact I am moving all the time. But I think it's because of this reason. Even living in two German cities for 6 months each time and having two suitcases to get me through the year, I still took some homeware. I can be quite a home-body and I love a cosy place. I want to put my stamp on an apartment and to me, somewhere's not home until I've put some fairy lights up and bought a plant.

I also think of homeware as a more excusable spend than clothing. Though I can't exactly put my finger on why. Perhaps because I'm unlikely to wear something every single day but I will see it in my home everyday. Homeware shopping = totally justified.

Here's some of the things I'm currently lusting over:

5 Things I'm Loving Right Now

5 Things I'm Loving Right Now |
So for the last few weeks I've been pretty organised with my blog, writing my posts in advance and actually scheduling them. Not this one, I'm sitting in bed on a chilly Saturday morning writing this up with some Youtube videos on and a coffee on my bedside table. Let's do this.

I've got the whole weekend to myself, so I plan on nursing my cold, look into switching my blogging platform (Blogger I don't like u anymore), and prepping some of my #Blogmas posts. That's right, I'm keen. I will be posting every single day in December up until Christmas, lots of festive content (even some BuJo festive content) and I'm really excited. Now I've said it on here as well, I have to stick to it!

Anyway, here are 5 things I've been loving recently:

Bullet Journal Page Ideas For Better Mental Health

Bullet Journal Page Ideas For Better Mental Health |
Bullet journals are great for mental health. At its simplest, having everything you need to remember, from appointments to bills or shopping lists, written down can be great at easing anxiety. If you worry a lot like I do, using a bullet journal to log all your things to do can put your mind at ease that you haven't forgotten anything. But one of my favourite things about bullet journalling is that its customisable. I love adding other pages alongside my daily logs such as a revision schedule, a wishlist, or a habit tracker. I also love using my bullet journal as a form of art journal, filling it with mindless doodles, illustrations, painting, scrapbooking. It's so therapeutic to sit down with my journal and art supplies and switch off from digital life for a few moments.

If you want to start using your bullet journal to make your days a little bit happier, here is some ideas:

Booking A Holiday With People You Met Online, And Having The Best Time

Bloggers Weekend Away |

When I was younger, my parents always said 'don't talk to strangers'. Oh how the world we live in has changed, now I talk to strangers everyday, and I write a blog which is read by strangers, and last weekend I went on holiday with STRANGERS. Ok technically these girls are not strangers, we have talked EVERY SINGLE DAY in a Whatsapp group for over a year, we know everything that's worth knowing about each other and we get on unbelievably well for 5 random people.

So most of us met last summer for the first time at the Blogger's Picnic that we organised together. Effi however couldn't make it, and we were all so keen to meet that we pinpointed a weekend and booked an AirBnb. Then we all got super excited and planned a lot until the time came around, when we panic packed the night before (turns out we're not all as organised as we'd like to be) and left our various towns to meet in Hampshire.

How To Save Time Blogging

How To Save Time Blogging |
Working full time and blogging can seem impossible. Especially when you're working an office job, the last thing you want to do when you get home sometimes is open up your laptop and stare at a screen for a few more hours (but we all still do it anyway haha). When I was working in Germany, I had an hour commute each way on public transport and I fitted in a lot of blogging during those long U-Bahn rides, but now I drive to work and I definitely can't blog during these journeys haha. My commute is shorter now though so that's a lot better!

But sometimes we need to find some corners to cut to save time when we blog. The thing with blogging is that you can always do more. There's always emails to reply to, posts to write, photos to edit, proofreading, interacting and engaging with other bloggers, self promoting, tidying up old posts, redesigning, commenting, you name it. It's impossible to fit it all in, but here are some ways you can squeeze a bit more into your blogging time to get the most out of it:

What I'm Currently Listening To

What I'm Currently Listening To |
Since returning from Reading Festival, I've been on such a music hype. I've been listening to new favourites, revisiting old favourites and discovering some great new artists and bands. I swear I'm always listening to music haha! I love getting music recommendations so I thought I'd share some of my own with you all!

Dying Your Hair At Home Successfully

Dying Your Hair At Home Successfully |

I change my hair colour A LOT. It probably doesn't seem like it because for some reason I never change my display pictures, I think the one I currently have everywhere is about a year and a half old. Since that picture was taken, I've been blonde, cut it all off and dyed it brunette, dyed it red, bleached the ends, dyed the ends pink, went back dark, added more of a reddy brown, and currently it's black and blue. And that's in just a year a half. So though I am NOT a professional hairdresser, I have acquired quite a few tips to make dying your hair at home a more successful experience and to avoid a disaster.

Reading Festival 2017

Reading Festival 2017 |

I love festivals, I love listening to some of my favourite bands and discovering new music. I love being a part of the crowd and being in that bubble away from the stresses and pressures of normal life. I had such a fantastic weekend at Reading Festival last week - the weather was beautiful the whole time, great company and the music was everything I'd hoped it'd be.

Festival blues are in full force.

I've made a video of the weekend below, it's my first real attempt at video editing and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's definitely not perfect, but I love rewatching and reliving the festival and I definitely want to delve into videos a bit more. Maybe YouTube is on the horizon?!

The Best University Tips From A Graduate

4 years ago I had a sleepless night, impatiently waiting for my A Level results and whether university would offer me place. It feels like yesterday! I still remember the emotions I felt the morning of results day. Now I've been graduated a month and it's all over, I'm insanely jealous of Freshers heading to university in September, this will be the first of 18 years I won't be heading back to education *cue the violins*. Here's my tips for surviving uni and having the best experience ever.

ASOS Finds: 20 under £20

ASOS Wishlist: 20 under £20 |
I did one of these posts around this time last year (I think?!) and it was pretty popular. Turns out there's quite a few of you who also like bargains or are on a budget, so I thought I'd do another one. I spend way too long on ASOS anyway, so why not put this endless browsing to good use.

Here's 20 of my favourite under £20 pieces on ASOS currently.

Why You Should Add Germany To Your Travel Bucketlist

If you've been a reader of my blog for a while, you may know that I lived in Germany for a year for my university course. It was an amazing year, I have so many memories I look back fondly on and though, I'm not going to lie, it WAS tough, it was the most rewarding experience ever. Anyway I've written a million posts documenting my year abroad so I won't go into that here.

I've been living back in the UK for just over a year now and I occasionally feel 'homesick' for Germany. It's weird saying that because I'm British, I grew up in the UK and have lived here all my life, bar those 11 months in Germany, but I do miss Deutschland. I also miss speaking German now I've finished my degree, so if there's any German readers, feel free to chat to me on social media in German!

I think Germany is often overlooked as a travel destination. When travelling in Europe many people want to go to Rome or Paris or the Greek and Spanish islands. Or maybe the increasingly popular Prague or Budapest. But not many people say they want to visit Germany. I travelled a LOT of Germany on my year abroad (my German flatmate said I'd seen more of Germany in my short time there than she had her whole life!) and I am adamant that everyone should visit at some point, here's 4 reasons why...

Summer Roadtrips

Summer Roadtrips and Liverpool Photo Diary |
Hi guys,

Hope you're all having a lovely summer - I'm v jealous if you're a student with your long summer holidays - damn I miss those.

Last week I graduated and I had such a nice day, there's an emotional Instagram post on my page with lots of pictures if you wanted to see. But not only have I finished that chapter of my life, I've jumped right into the deep end of the pool that is adult life. I've moved out of student accommodation and am renting a flat, I've got a full time grown-up job in marketing AND I BOUGHT A CAR. Ohhh yes.

I was super keen to get driving the moment I turned 17 all those years ago and racked up a LOT of miles driving around in my KA when I passed my test. I had to sell my little bubble car when I moved to Germany in 2015 and just didn't get round to replacing it.

So for my birthday I treated myself to a new one - Patrick the Polo. (Yes, it has a name.)

The day I picked it up from the garage I drove 3 hours, 150 miles, back to Warwickshire. As if that wasn't enough driving, 2 days later I drove my friends up to see our friend in Liverpool. Who doesn't love a long road trip, with your besties, a good car DJ, and long stretches of motorway? (If you suffer from travel sickness - I'm sorry).

Decorating On An Extremely Low Budget

Decorating on a extremely low budget tips |
Okay my graduation day is looming, but I'm technically still a student OK? Please?

One of the challenges of university they don't tell you about: decorating your uni room and making a cosy area you're happy in, on a minimal student loan budget that likely doesn't even cover the rent. It's a skill in itself.

Decorating a new place was always my fave thing about starting a new year - I had 5 rooms in the my uni time. I've always loved interiors, but it's just not realistic to have a stunning Pinterest-worthy place when you're a student, or just decorating on a budget, so this is where these tips come in! I hope you find these useful.

5 Things I'm Loving Right Now

5 Things I'm Loving Right Now |
Happy Thursday! Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

I'm heading back to Norfolk today to see my friends and family for my birthday and I'm really looking forward to catching up with people for the short time I'm there. I also had a day trip to Oxford yesterday which was so nice, you may see a little photo diary on here sooner or later (probably later, let's be honest, my turnaround time seems to be terrible lately, why am I always busy?!) (I do like being busy though...)

It's been what feels like foreverrr since I last wrote one of these posts, so I was excited to write this one. I didn't actually know where to start as there's so much going on right now that I could have included more than 5 things easily! But here are the 5 I chose to share.

Finishing University

Hello you guys.

Betcha can't get what this post is going to be about. No? Well I did it. I've finished university, my exams are over, I went to graduation ball and I have my results. I actually got my results a couple of days ago but I've been way too hungover to write this post until now.

Going Vegetarian

Going Vegetarian - My Experience + Tips |

Since having a break from my blog, I've been trying to decide whether I want to talk about this subject on here or not. It's definitely not a usual topic of mine, but it's something I've become really interested in and definitely want to discuss with you guys.

One of my New Year resolutions was to cut meat out of my diet. Before Christmas I had managed to cut it down to eating meat only twice a week and honestly, I didn't find it that hard, so I vowed in the New Year to stop eating meat altogether. So since then, I've been a vegetarian.

Bullet journal walkthrough 2.0

Bullet Journal Walkthrough |

I've been so excited to share this post and so eager to prepare it. I love sharing my journal with you guys and from the feedback I get, I think you guys seem to love seeing it too.

I bought a new bullet journal after filling my second one and decided to change things up. Normally I go for this Paperchase journal which I love for the variety of pages, but I wanted to try something new. I chose this Muji notebook - it's thinner and lighter to carry, dotted pages and still ringbound. It's also cheaper! So far, I love it.

Anyway, here's a (rather picture-heavy) look through my bullet journal:

Hello strangers

Hello humans on the internet.

Where the hell have I been, you're probably wondering. Or not, who knows.

Well, to be honest, I have been super busy, but not with anything that exciting to report on. I'm super sorry for neglecting my blog for this long, but I'm back now!

The most exciting thing I can tell you is that I'VE FINISHED MY MOTHER EFFING DEGREEEEEE. I've been working so hard and now I've finally finished, I have so many emotions right now. Relief, excitement, sadness, pride, nervousness. So many feels.

I've spent 4 years at Warwick and with that I have had the BEST time of my life but it's been so tough too. I won't hide that fact. University comes with a lot of challenges, not just multiple deadlines in one go and difficult coursework and stressful exams, but personal challenges as well. You grow a lot as a person.

I've had so many amazing opportunities though, I've met my best friends (shout out to Caitlin and Melissa for being my absolute rocks this year), played polo and got to ride in some university tournaments, travelled lots, lived for a year in Germany, studying and interning and I started my blog and that's been a whirlwind of fun itself. I've learnt so much, not just with course content but about myself. I can't quite get my head around the fact that my education is over. I'm not sure I'm ready for it to be over. But here's to the next chapter of my life!

Now my exams are over and I can think about other stuff than German grammar and international business frameworks, I want to put some of my energy back into this blog. I'm looking forward to returning to this creative outlet again and I hope you'll enjoy some of the posts I've got lined up.

Thank you for sticking around guys. I can't wait to share the next bit of my life with you all.

Getting my first tattoo

First tattoo experience |
Last week I got my first tattoo. It’s something I’ve been working the courage up to do for years. I’ve always admired them and think they can be incredibly beautiful, and I’m so proud of myself for finally taking the plunge and get one done.

I found my artist on Instagram, she was based in Coventry and I loved all her work. Then I noticed one of my friend’s tattoos on her feed so I dropped her a message and he couldn’t recommend her enough. Decision made.

I love botanical tattoos and I had an idea in mind of a little bouquet of flowers, black and grey and dotwork shading. My journal is filled with drawings like this and it just felt very ‘me’. Before you wonder, there’s no real meaning behind it. I just love the design. I was quite adamant I didn’t want my first tattoo to be one with a deep meaning, and I think I made the right decision as I’ll touch on later.

University Bucket List

University Bucket List -
I can’t quite believe how quickly time has gone. It barely seems like a year ago I was excited about going to uni, and now in less than 2 months, I will have walked out of my last exam and my education will be over. My degree, that I’ve put so much energy and time into for the last 4 years, will be finished.

I’m busy writing my final essay and revising for my exams, but I thought I’d put together a little bucket list of all the things that I’ve done at uni and still want to do, partly for me, partly for you guys. Whether you’ve been to university and you want to see how much you’ve ticked off, or you’re heading to university this year, I thought this might be fun to share.

A London Photo Diary

London |

Back at the beginning of February, Luke and I headed down to London for a little weekend away on our weekend off to spend some time together. Between work, uni and other stuff going on, we don't actually get to spend that much alone time together so it was really nice to just enjoy each other's company while exploring London and visiting some favourite places there.

5 Things I'm Loving Right Now

Shelfie |
I haven't yet done one of these posts this year, and I love writing them, so I thought I’d fill you in on some of the things I’m currently obsessing over.

My life got a bit crazy recently when I had 3 deadlines all within a couple of weeks of each other, and stress hit me hard. I’ve also been pretty ill since the start of term with a horrible cold that I've only just managed to get over, so January wasn’t the best of months, but I still managed to find things that boosted my mood.

The easy way to draw mandalas

The easy way to draw a mandala |
It always upsets me a little when people apologise for not posting on their blog because they've had a lot going on: you shouldn't need to say sorry really, but I'm going to say it anyway. I'm in my final year of university and I've had a lot of deadlines recently, so I had to take a step back from blogging to focus on my degree. I just had a bit too much on my plate and unfortunately blogging was the thing I had to sacrifice, but I'm not ready to give up my little corner of the internet just yet, so thanks for sticking around!

I've been doing a lot of art lately to keep me sane and help relax as stress really affects me. One of my favourite things to do is draw mandalas and I've tried numerous ways, watched a few tutorials and experimented a lot. I've finally found a way to draw a perfectly neat and beautiful mandala which is so simple I thought I would share on my blog. If you try this method out, please let me know as I'd love to see how you get on with it!

Pleated Midi Skirt

Maroon Pleated Metallic Midi Skirt |

Happy 2017...

I hope you've all had a good start to the new year.

I'm definitely feeling those January blues - the cold weather, looming essay deadlines and the upcoming term has got me feeling a bit meh. But I'm focusing on those positives.

In the last few months, I feel like I've really learnt a lot about myself and have started to 'find' myself (I hate how cliche that sounds...) I may do a whole blog post on this, but I've really started to find my personal style rather than trying to follow all of the trends we see all over blogs, Pinterest, Instagram etc. Most of them don't suit me anyway. This has really helped me to feel a whole lot more comfortable in myself and confident with my outfits.
