Booking A Holiday With People You Met Online, And Having The Best Time

When I was younger, my parents always said 'don't talk to strangers'. Oh how the world we live in has changed, now I talk to strangers everyday, and I write a blog which is read by strangers, and last weekend I went on holiday with STRANGERS. Ok technically these girls are not strangers, we have talked EVERY SINGLE DAY in a Whatsapp group for over a year, we know everything that's worth knowing about each other and we get on unbelievably well for 5 random people.

So most of us met last summer for the first time at the Blogger's Picnic that we organised together. Effi however couldn't make it, and we were all so keen to meet that we pinpointed a weekend and booked an AirBnb. Then we all got super excited and planned a lot until the time came around, when we panic packed the night before (turns out we're not all as organised as we'd like to be) and left our various towns to meet in Hampshire.

Both the first time I met these girls and this time, it just felt so natural. Like we'd been friends for years. There were no surprises, no-one acting differently to how they come across online, not one dominating friend, no-one left out, no bitching behind backs. I felt so comfortable around them, and that, I think, is a pretty incredible thing for 5 people who started talking to each other in Twitter chats.

However there was a little bit of talking behind backs going on beforehand. Mel's birthday is TODAY (go wish her a happy birthday!!) and we wanted to throw her a little surprise birthday party, so we did a bit of planning to ensure the barn we stayed in could be decorated before she arrived, a cake was made, cards were bought, and prosecco pong prepped. It looked beautiful!

I just want to say a massive thank you to Talking Tables at this point, this is not a sponsored post, however they did send us some decorations and party things to make the place look incredible and it really, really did. I absolutely love their products, and their customer service is great.

Friday night involved lots of party-type food (think nachos, sausage rolls, and pringles), balloons, music, prosecco pong fun and lots of photo taking.

Want to know what the best thing about going away with bloggers is? They GET IT. They don't complain when candles have to be relit 3 times for the perfect boomerang or photo. They get why stopping for 10 minutes to take photos of blackberries is totally acceptable. They take candid photos of you that make you look really cool even if you're not.

On Saturday, the rate of photo taking and SD card filling did not slow down. The forecast for Saturday was rain in the afternoon, so we made sure we got up in time to go for a walk in the countryside. Our AirBnB was in such a beautiful setting, and the walk did not disappoint. We saw ponies, cows, rolling fields and hills, blackberries and pretty trees, and some gorgeous houses.

We got back just in time as the moment we stepped inside the heavens opened. Literally. Had we have been caught in it we would have been soaked through! But instead we put the kettle on, pulled out our laptops and bullet journals and had a little blogging/creativity sesh. It was great to be able to constantly bounce ideas off each other, ask opinions on whether pics fit in your insta theme, share hashtags - you get the idea.

Saturday night entailed FAJITAS. Among 5 of us we had 1 vegetarian, 1 vegan, 1 allergy and a couple of fussy eaters so finding a one meal that worked for all of us actually proved quite difficult. We finally settled on fajitas and there were various options: spiced veg, plain veg, spiced chicken, plain chicken, halloumi, salsa, salad, and wedges. And it was so bloody good.

We also had some gin and some deep chats, I love that we can talk about absolutely anything to each other. In fact at this point, I'm not sure there's a topic we haven't covered!

On Sunday morning we woke up bright (maybe not so bright) and early again because we had plans to make use of the pool our AirBnB had. Talking Tables also very kindly sent us some drink holder inflatables and a giant pineapple inflatable so we took those along with us!

So the pool actually involved more cameras and phototaking than actual swimming, but it was such fun. I haven't actually been swimming in ages but it's definitely made me look forward to my holiday next month! And for that I won't dye my hair 2 days before so I can actually get it wet...

We had a quick tidy up before checking out and headed for a Sunday lunch, which perfectly finished off an amazing weekend, before heading our separate ways home. Can I just add that Toby's carvery for a vegetarian is amazing because that have so many veggie options. So. Good.

I was so sad to say goodbye to these girls, as I had such a good time and it could be ages before we get the opportunity to see each other again. We've got a definite plan to see each other again in March but we're already planning an interim weekend away. I didn't really expect to come back from the weekend feeling so motivated and inspired and content - being around 4 girls who are so encouraging and funny and genuinely lovely does great things! Can't wait to see you guys again! <3
