Over 4 years ago, I sat down on my bed in my first year uni accommodation with a notebook and pen and scribbled down some ideas. I'd been reading blogs for a while and decided I wanted to write my own one.
My Year 3 Primary School teacher always swore I'd be a writer, I guess she saw my love for the written word.
With a few blog posts drafted, I tentatively decided on a blog name - though now, I'm not even sure what that was - and hit publish. I then proceeded to change my blog name numerous times but it didn't matter - I had approx 2 page views in 2 months - most likely bots. It was only when I got on Twitter and started immersing myself in the blogging community when humans other than me started landing on my blog.
Now, 4 years later, I've had over 3 million page views. I still can't get my head around that number if I'm honest!
When I started, all I really wanted was a little corner of the internet to share my thoughts. From learning my times tables by creating tables in Word documents (true story), to a website building after school club in Year 6, from Live Journal to a Tumblr blog, it was inevitable I was going to end up with blogging as a hobby with the amount of time I spent on computers and online. I'm surprised it took me as long as it did, but university was the perfect time for me to start up my blog. I wanted to fill my free time writing, learning new skills, being creative. That was all I had in mind. I didn't think I'd still be blogging beyond university.
Blogging has done so much for me that I never expected:
- I've met 5 of my bestest friends, who I talk to every single day. We're currently planning another holiday and Effi's wedding, and these girls mean the absolute world to me
- My blog helped me get my first job out of university and start my career in Marketing
- I've learnt so many skills including design skills that I now use doing design work in my job, which I wouldn't be doing without my blog
- Through taking photos for my blog, I've improved my photography so much. It's given me a reason to constantly be creative with my photos.
- I've earned a little bit of money and worked with some awesome brands
I am grateful every single day for you guys out there who read my blog. It's encouraged me to spend my time doing something I love to pieces and I honestly can't thank you all enough. Every single comment I get on my blog literally makes my day. Knowing someone out there has read what I've got to say and took the time out of their day to leave a comment? It means the whole world to me.
So I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to you guys, as without the positive and encouraging comments and the friends I've made along the way, I have no idea if I would be typing this right now. Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading my little blog <3
I'm not too sure where my blog will go from here. I feel like I've recently found my place in the blogging community and now I just need to set up my camp and work hard on it. My blog has changed so much since I first started it 4 years ago. In my first few months of blogging, I wrote posts about beauty, despite not knowing the first thing about it, I wrote about fashion and trends that if I'm being honest, I never really liked even though everyone else seemed to. Eventually I stopped writing things for others, and in the last couple of years, the posts I've published I've created because I wanted to. I've stopped taking stats and trends into consideration and wrote for my own personal enjoyment. Some of my favourite posts to date are:
So though I have no idea where this blogging journey is going to go, and I have no solid plans or goals, I'm excited and I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I'm going to keep creating posts, especially bullet journal, travel and fashion as those are my favourite, but most likely also other lifestyle posts too. I'm going to focus on growing my Instagram as that feed could do with a little bit more time and love, and I want to get more involved with the community too. Going to some more blogging events in my next year of blogging would be fun!
Thank you again for reading this, and for my other posts. I doubt many of you have been around since day 1, but whenever you found my blog, whether it was yesterday or a year ago, you're one of the reasons I'm writing this and I hope you'll stick around!
